FAN MAKERS' GOLFING SOCIETY vs NO II (AC) SQUADRON RAF

To mark our Tercentenary we chose to organise this year’s match (the Squadron’s centenary is not far off) and with the aid of some inside track managed to book Sheringham Golf Club, a splendid course on North Norfolk’s rainy and windswept coast; but… for our visit the day stayed calm and sunny. This was doubly lucky as, for operational reasons, the match had had to be postponed from the summer.

Last year we had won by a whisker, and the Squadron was up for revenge, and even managed to have a Tornado fly overhead to distract us. Anyway, no excuses, we lost by three and half to one and a half. We can’t help feeling those RAF boys do something other than flying because they certainly play a mean game of golf.

Much fun was had over dinner in the evening, and the following day those that could get an extended leave pass from home were treated to a visit to RAF Marham and a close-up of a Tornado – very claustrophobic in the pilot’s seat!!

In 2010 we are hoping to play the fixture at Mog Magog on 13th August.
