On Halloween, Liveryman Lin McGarry and her husband Mark, organised a group of Liverymen from the Worshipful Company of Fan Makers to volunteer at the amazing charity City Harvest. Liverymen Lisa Andrews, Gail Sharp and Assistant Carole Plant spent a hugely enjoyable day packing butternut squash, potatoes and apples in crates. We then packed crates full of various items designed to be given to families in need and crates of snacks for different venues.
Established in 2014, City Harvest rescues nutritious surplus food from farms, manufacturers, wholesalers and retailers and delivers it, for free, to over 130,000 people a week, via organisations feeding those facing food poverty. This includes the Soup Kitchen in Goodge Street, where 4 volunteers from the Fan Makers give a morning of their time each month to feed those in need. Liveryman Gail Sharp organises this regular volunteering. Thanks to Liveryman Lin McGarry for encouraging us to volunteer at City Harvest. We all had a good "muscle workout", thoroughly enjoyed the day, and felt part of something important. Thanks to Po-Yee Lai for her warm welcome and induction.
